Environment & U

Leon just blogged about global warming, so bein' friendly to de environment, here's mi 2 cents:
We all luv de yummy food that some restaurants sell, but avoid de styrofoam if yu can. It contains dioxins (which are known carcinogens). Consider it, "Wouldja like dioxins wit dat?" De environment can't break down styrofoam into earth-friendly fossil, so it's not doin' Mother Earth any favours either. Dioxins especially seep into fatty food, so if you buy soup or porridge or gravy-laden meals in styrofoam, U just got a free order of dioxins -- does it go well with your oxtail and rice & peas? Not really ... not at all.

I would love to stop eating from Styrofoam boxes and cups, but I can't help it because that is what all the food places sell their takeout food in. We are just forced to pollute and harm our health.

what choice do we have to put oour food in. do we carry our own containers.
Added to your styrofoam note. Please do not heat your food in a styrofoam container in the microwave. that will be two orders of dioxins if youp lase

Ah know what yu mean, Stunner -- all roads now seem to lead to styrofoam, unhealthy as it is. :(

Love, your aversion to styrofoam really is a cool bonus -- now I'm goin' to try & psych mi-self into such an active aversion to it.

Camp, some restaurants sell in different paper-type containers and foil too -- yu right about de microwave -- ah didn't even rememba 'til ah read your comment.

LOL, Jdid, how ah goin' to lengthen ya life an' sap ya will to live same time -- no 'buss up shut' at all!

MacDonalds stopped packaging in styrofoam and uses paper in the US because customers complained. If you complain, they will hear. Companies like to keep customers satisfied because they want to stay in the black.

Local Jamaican eateries in NYC often use disposable/recyclable aluminum dishes for steamed fish and so on. However, those are not good for serving porridge and soup which is often served in styrofoam cups. I suggest one make one's own porridge at home instead of buying at the shop.

Here in Jamaica it's almost impossible to avoid the styrofoam stuff. I remember finding out about the microwave thing the hard way. we heated some left over chinese food and the microwave made little strings of the container all over the food. You could see "poison" written all over it.
